Comments about Men's Insulated Squall® Parka:

I bought this to replace a much-worn 20 year old ski jacket (and which, in fairness, cost a lot more).

It is a lot heavier and quite a bit stiffer. The sleeves are a bit too long for my arms but can easily be rolled back an inch, which I have done. Plenty of pockets - more than I will need.

My main need for this jacket is to be worn while taking walks (which I do daily) and day-long hikes (once or twice a month) during cold weather. So it needs to be wind and waterproof and warm. It meets these three requirements and I am sure will get much use.

Downsides: two small ones. First the pockets are positioned such that it is uncomfortable to walk with hands in pockets. You can choose from either vertical pockets (which then let in the rain) or horizontal pockets which are uncomfortable. Second, my ski jacket allows you to tuck the thin hood into the collar. On this jacket the hood is way to big for this, which is a pity.

Finally, the cover for the main zip closes over it using velcro. I wonder how long this will last. Good quality studs would have been better.

Overall, this is a good product but a few minor changes would make it a great one.

Is this coat really warmer than the classic squall parka. The specification seems virtually identical.
