Many thanks for getting in touch. Our eco shawl cardigan is made out of 36% recycled polyester from recycled plastic bottles. At the moment this is one of a few trial products to see how our customers respond to both the idea and the feel, so feedback like this is incredibly helpful!
Please be assured that our commitment to the environment is an ongoing priority for everyone at Lands' End and we continuously evaluate our products and procedures to provide high-quality products that are built to last and therefore reduce environmental impact.
The research about micro plastic pollution is only just starting to emerge in our industry, but the shedding of microfibers from synthetic garments has been and is a real concern for Lands' End. Unfortunately, micro particles are inevitably a by-product of many synthetic materials – not just in the apparel industry. We are reviewing this issue throughout our manufacture process and are currently initiating various change programs, for example we now use a tailored thread blower to remove as many micro particles as possible from our fleece products, before they go on sale.
From the research that has so far been done, we know that garments of higher quality shed less in the wash than those of lower-quality and at Lands' End we were founded on making quality products that are built to last. It's what we live by.
Thanks again for getting in touch, we will pass this feedback on to the products teams immediately.
