Squall® Jacket: legendary versatility, updated design
Launched in 1983, this jacket's predecessor was the founding member of the Lands' End Squall® family, and the first piece of outerwear we ever offered; its enduring style and versatility have made it a trusted companion for many thousands of customers ever since. A tough act to follow, but with 35 years of heritage and expertise to draw on, this new generation more than measures up. Bonded zips and reflective trims are fresh-out-the-box, along with updated colours and trim combinations. Inside and out, though, it's all Squall - guaranteed warm and windproof, the shell built from our famously rugged waterproof nylon fabric, all signed off with the raglan sleeves and rib-knitted cuffs/hem of the original.
I have two Squall jackets a couple of years old. Is the inside pocket in the one you are now selling smaller than in the older models?

Simon

Just taken delivery and yes the inner pocket is small and badly designed. It's about 6" high and 3" to 4" wide (it tapers). The zip is vertical and full length so when unfastened there is a real possibility of the contents sliding out so no good for phones and wallets. Perfect for an old hanky.

Bob

I have the approx measurement for the inside pocket. Length is 8 inches, width 5.5 inches and the zip length is 6 inches. There is some variation according to the size of the Jacket.

Jane

Is it possible to remove the logo without ruining the look of the jacket? Like others I've worn Squall jackets for many years and one of the reasons I love Lands End is the lack of logo on the clothing.

Athelstan

Thank you for your enquiry. I think that it would be impossible to remove the logo without damaging the Jacket.

Jane

If the inside pocket is smaller, as someone wrote in a review, that is a pity as I found the original size of that pocket useful. I wonder what the reason for that is. However, I love this jacket and have worn one for years.

None

Thank you for your enquiry, which I will forward to our Merchandising Team for future consideration.

Jane

Does the squall jacket have a hood in the collar?

Richard

Thank you for your enquiry. this Jacket does not have a hood.

Jane

Are you going to offer this style in Woman's?

Charlie

Thank you for enquiry. At the moment we only have the Women's Hooded Squall Jacket style 502792.

Jane

How many pockets, especially internal and/or zipped ones, does it have?

jayprime

There are the two outer zip pockets shown in the photos, and 1 internal pocket with a zip.

Great jacket for everyday use

My 30. year old black Squall jacket, bought in the US, finally wore out. Got this one in the dark green and it is comfortable, windproof and waterproof. Ideal for days where you are in and out of the car and the weather's not good. Some nice touches, like the piping around the top of the collar/neck. Inside pocket is just big enough for my 'phone, but the cut of the sleeves makes it difficult to have a bigger one. Overall, very happy with this lighter, more weatherproof update.

Not as good as it used to be

This is my second Squall Jacket. None of the (relatively minor) changes is an improvement, in my view. Inside pocket is smaller - now big enough for a phone, but not much else. Fleece lining is thinner. Reflective piping (too narrow to be useful), tacky plastic Lands' End label and the external zips cheapen the look of the jacket. The self-coloured rib-knitted cuffs and hem on my older jacket look better than those on my new one.

Too small inside pocket and needs two

2

The inner pocket is far too small. Please make at least 2 inches deeper.. even 3? My phone has to be zipped- in, to prevent it falling out of inner pocket when bending down, which I do quite a lot .. So to take/make a call, I have to 1. take off Gloves, 2) unzip Jacket 3) Unzip inner pocket.. by which stage call has gone to voice-mail ! And if I have gone to the town, I cannot have BOTH phone AND wallet secure inside ! I have decided to buy in the sale for value and shop by tap-card which lives in phone cover and keep coins in trouser pocket!. Inconvenient, un-necessary, but do-able?

What a pity

2

What a pity landsend has decided to fiddle with what was a great product. This jacket now sports ugly reflective strips, which in turn means that the front and back are no longer single pieces. I cannot buy this or recommend it to any friends. Please landsend, please don't mess about with good products like this, or the original canvas attaché, or the original seersucker shirts , or with many other of your basic lines. The quality seems to go down, and the price up .

great jacket

Good product for colder weather as others have said inside pocket is a bit small I use mine to keep a pen too small for a wallet or passport but side pockets good and overall a very good jacket Lands End logo on the front is not a problem for me

Still Great Quality

Been wearing Squall jackets for over 20 years. This represents great value for money (under £30 in sale). Length a bit shorter than I expected - will get Tall size in future.

Not made for slim people

2

This jacket is cut more for the chunky person than anyone who is relatively slim. If your waist is not getting towards the same size as your chest (chunky) then the waist of the jacket will be too big. I have a 42" chest and 34" waist and the wist of the jacket is baggy and hangs on my, it looks terrible. Why are clothes now made for fatties rather than normal people????

No Problem.

Baffles me, I have a squall well over 10 years old, there's no difference in the size of the logo, and hardly a reason to give 1 star.... The inside pocket IS a different configuration, it's now a phone pocket, as with most modern jackets, the inside pocket of the original is hardly generous.... the jacket itself, which is what it's all about, is well made, comfortable and serviceable, easy to wear, washes well, and will probably last as long as my original. I was wary about buying a replacement, because of some reviews, but can absolutely see no real drawback from one to the other.... it is still a very practical jacket.
