After being advised in The Spring that Lands' End were bringing back a comfort-fitting jean in The Autumn I have been nursing my Levi 569's for the last six months hoping that they would last out. I ordered these within ten minutes of the catalogue hitting my doorstep and have been eagerly looking out for delivery. Sigh. The legs below the knee are so narrow that they gripped my calves like I was wearing elastic stockings! My wife had to pull the leg bottoms while I lay on the bed in order to get them off. Waist and crutch are adequate although I would have preferred a more generous fitting (yes, I mean a longer zip!) and the fabric and finish quality is all that one would expect from Lands' End - but there is no way that these jeans compare with the old Comfort Fit from years ago. I would have gladly paid another £20+ a pair for something comfortable (my 569's cost that and more) but as it is, after the promise of The Spring and the write-up in the catalogue I feel disappointed and let down. Ever the optimist, I have asked for an exchange for Square Rigger Relaxed Fit which don't have the Comfort Waist but which the lady on the phone advises me should definitely be wider in the lower leg. They'll need to be or they'll be going back for a refund and I shall have to continue my quest elsewhere. Fingers crossed!
