Feels good, inside and out
We fell for the feel of the yarn before we even knew what it was. We’re talking bury-your-face-in softness, with an irresistible lightness, which is surprising for a cotton-rich fabric. Then we learned the secret: the cotton is blended with merino wool and recycled polyester - yes, plastic bottles! It’s a superior fabric, scoring high marks for pill resistance and durability, a great foundation for this wonderfully flattering design: a cardigan you’ll feel good about wearing, inside and out.
Please can you explain how a sweater made partly of polyester is eco-friendly!!!??? Have you not heard about the damage polyester does to eco-systems when it is washed? And recycled polyester would surely shed tiny particles even more, because the fibres would be shorter. Please ask your 'experts' who make these claims to think again.

Environmentalist

Many thanks for getting in touch. Our eco shawl cardigan is made out of 36% recycled polyester from recycled plastic bottles. At the moment this is one of a few trial products to see how our customers respond to both the idea and the feel, so feedback like this is incredibly helpful! Please be assured that our commitment to the environment is an ongoing priority for everyone at Lands' End and we continuously evaluate our products and procedures to provide high-quality products that are built to last and therefore reduce environmental impact. The research about micro plastic pollution is only just starting to emerge in our industry, but the shedding of microfibers from synthetic garments has been and is a real concern for Lands' End. Unfortunately, micro particles are inevitably a by-product of many synthetic materials - not just in the apparel industry. We are reviewing this issue throughout our manufacture process and are currently initiating various change programs, for example we now use a tailored thread blower to remove as many micro particles as possible from our fleece products, before they go on sale. From the research that has so far been done, we know that garments of higher quality shed less in the wash than those of lower-quality and at Lands' End we were founded on making quality products that are built to last. It's what we live by. Thanks again for getting in touch, we will pass this feedback on to the products teams immediately.

Can you tell me what the washing instructions are?

Awful product

1

I was so disappointed with this item. I know it was in the same but you come to expect a certain level of quality from lands end regardless. This item had piles from the first wear before even washed. Had for around 3 months, washed it 3 times following instructions now I leave a trail of black fluff wherever I go and it is unwearable

I wouldn't buy this product again

I loved the cardigan at first, it is comfortable, a great fit and the color is good but, after even the first wear, it was very bobbly and has got really bad now after about five or six wears. I am very disappointed because it looks old and worn out already.

Beautifully designed

The collar is very comfortable, with a section at the back which makes it lie better than many shawl collars do. Comfort and style combined.

Worst ever for pilling!

I loved the look of this cardigan and bought it in two colours, green and grey. When they arrived they lived up to my expectations. Great fit, lovely and warm, and smart enough for work. However, I can't believe how badly they pill/bobble. After the first time I wore one of them, I noticed it already and after a couple more outings I couldn't wear the cardigan again until it had been 'de-bobbled'. Sometimes it feels like I spend more time doing that than wearing the cardigans, which is a huge disappointment. I had planned to buy in other colours too but won't be doing so because of this problem.

Beautiful .... but....

Thought this was going to be my all time favourite cardi. It's warm, comfortable and I love the pockets. Eco friendly too. Looks good and I love it. However, after only three wears it started to pill badly. I've used a pilling tool after every couple of wears and it's still moulting. I'm keeping it, as it's so comfortable and cosy, but can't wear it as smart casual as I'd hoped unless it's just been combed ... Really sad... Would have given it five stars otherwise.
