How to be stylish, even when it's cold.

Winter clothes aren't always known for their style factor. They're more about function, after all, and keeping you warm and safe. They may not have the cool ease of warm-weather clothing, but that doesn't mean winter clothes should keep you from looking your best. A men's winter coat or down puffer is a given for colder days, but how do you add some cool touches to take your winter look to the next level? Take into account these tips for looking good and staying warm, and you won't have a thing to worry about.

Layer up

You don't have to wear one giant layer of puffy down to stay warm – though, the giant layer of down is still super insulating. Layer up with several insulating layers, and you'll still be trapping heat close to your body. A layered look is good for maintaining a silhouette that's less bulky, too, so you'll look more mountain man and less marshmallow man.

Start with the base layers. A good pair of waffle knit men's long underwear is a great place to start. Waffle knits create little pockets of warm air and keep them close to your body, helping to keep you warm. You can up your style factor with a colorful waffle knit, so you can add a little pop of color peeking out from beneath your shirt.

The next layer in your cold weather look should definitely be a men's flannel shirt. Nothing signals classic fall style quite like a good flannel. Lands' End flannel shirts are brushed on both sides – so they're not just soft outside, they're soft inside (where it counts). They're made from 100% ringspun combed cotton, which can be wound and woven tighter for a stronger, longer-lasting fabric.

Adding a couple extra touches can really help pull your outfit together. Throw on a knit hat and a scarf for some extra flair (and warmth). This is a really great opportunity to get creative! Fun colors and patterns, when chosen judiciously, can add variety and personality to your outfit. Those smaller details, apart from your main staple items, can really help your look come together and bring it to the next level.

If you're looking for something that looks good while also really helping to add some insulating power, get a pair of winter gloves. You can opt for a more traditional pair of leather driving gloves, for extra style points, or you can always choose some more techy-looking tricked out winter gloves. Many of the winter gloves we make at Lands' End feature extra pockets on the back of the hand for hand warmers, which is really important for cold days.

Get a good pair of stylish men's winter boots. Design and technology have come a long way in recent years, and have met in the middle to make some really great looking boots that will also keep your feet warm and dry. The added traction winter boots provide on icy surfaces can really come in handy when you need it.

All in all, you don't have to look abominable to dress warmly in winter. Take into account your personal style and flair, and accessorize your look with details you love. If you love what you're wearing, your confidence will show, and there's nothing more stylish than confidence.
