Swimsuits for larger busts

The best swimsuits for larger busts.

Sometimes, it feels like swimwear designers have forgotten full-busted women. Flimsy bikinis and one-piece bathing suits are everywhere you turn. Lands' End knows what you need though, so learn a little more about picking a suit made with your body in mind.

Start by choosing a swimsuit with wide straps. Thin ones don't provide any lift, and they can dig into your skin, leaving painful red marks that take hours to fade. A swimsuit with broad straps helps distribute weight evenly, alleviating pressure on your shoulders.

Hidden underwires in swimsuits are also your friend. You'll enjoy the support of a good bra, but reinforced stitches mean you won't get poked or scratched by a sharp piece of metal. We also offer regular, D, DD and DDD cup sizes.

Many large-breasted women tend to hide themselves away, but there's no need. Suits that squish, smoosh and flatten won't do you any favors, after all. Avoid anything that doesn't bring out the best in your curves, or has the dreaded "uni-boob" effect, and look for molded cups that lift and separate. If you need a little nudge to get you to the water, wear a quick-dry bra under a swim tee. Swim tees are designed to be worn over your swimsuit, or with a bra. Pair it with your favorite bikini bottoms or a swim skirt and you'll simply look sun savvy. Those shirts offer UPF 50 sun protection wet or dry. You'll stay sun smart until the sun sets.

Skip teeny bikini and tankini tops and choose something designed especially for an ample bust. Halter styles that tie behind the neck can be worn as loosely or tightly as you like. Adjustable straps are nice too, as you can alter them until you're satisfied.

Take things a step further with removable straps. When you're in the mood, clip them onto your suit and enjoy the subtle boost. If you'd rather try a daring bandeau look, remove them and get ready to show off your gorgeous décolletage.

Remember that certain necklines are best if you have a buxom build. A sweetheart style, for example, flatters your curves, as does a v-neck and a scoop cut. Avoid bateau suits though, which are easily overwhelmed by a voluptuous figure.

You'll also need a good pair of bottoms. A flared swim skirt provides balance, making your figure appear more even. Bikini briefs with detailing around the waist, like a draping tie or a wide band, have the same effect, and keep your chest from seeming out of proportion.

If you want a little more coverage on your lower half, try wearing a swim dress. We've designed many of ours to accommodate ample bosoms, so they'll keep everything in place. The flowing fabric also hides your rear and thighs.

Always make sure your swimwear is made from high-quality material, too. At Lands' End, we use Lycra® Xtra Life™ spandex that keeps its shape and resists chlorine damage, so your suit won't get stretched out. Firming Slendertex® fabric also smooths your figure, helping you look your best.
