Comments about Women's Down System Commuter Coat:

I walk a lot and so need something to keep me warm and dry in bad winter weather. This coat fits the bill perfectly. It is waterproof and warm, a good length to keep my legs dry, double ended zip...very useful if having to use a public loo!!!...warm funnel collar and fleecy lined pockets. Although the cuffs don't have an insert I found them draught-proof with the liner and just enough room to tuck in my glove cuff. As the liner comes out, I have also worn the shell over my LandsEnd Polartec parka which was really useful for not so cold days.
Four stars, not five because I would have liked a padded hood, although as it is it fits well over a beanie hat. Also, the blue liner seems an odd colour choice for the purple coat. I found the outer shell a bit big on its own, but appreciate that it is probably as small as it can be to accommodate the liner. I did think the original price rather high but the reduced price (plus 20% off) was very reasonable.

Comments about Women's Down System Commuter Coat:

Very pleased with this coat. Been put to the test straight away with high winds and rain storm... perfect! For me, the hood is perfect for stormy weather, comes down over head and pull cords to secure and able to wear a cosy hat underneath too. I like that i can keep my hair up in a clip and the hood still protects from the rain.. fabulous. The blue coat underneath does show on the sleeve, but it will either bother you or it won't. i personally am okay with that, i'd much rather be warm and dry when i am out in all weathers walking the dogg.

Comments about Women's Down System Commuter Coat:

I was in desperate need of a new winter coat with the flexibility to be comfortable under different temperature conditions and useful for a variety of situations (everything from shopping to walking to going to dinner). This coat fits the bill in so many ways. I love the detachable lining, as well as the fact that the hood can be detached and the cuffs cinched. The coat looks good and is definitely water-resistant and warm with its lining in place. However, the hood does not fit well. It seems to be too big and overhangs my face even when I have tried cinching it. It actually blocks my vision. I need a hood, but will probably wind up taking it off since I also need to see where I'm going. And if I try to fasten the coat at the v. top (which I admit, I don't often need to do, but in a gale, it would be helpful), it feels like I will choke. The neck is just too tight. Finally, although I've only used the lining in the coat about 4-5 times, it is leaking tiny pin feathers onto everything! A real nuisance and not what I expected from a Land's End product. I will keep and use this coat for many years, but wish that these issues weren't there. Bottom line: Recommended with reservations.

Comments about Women's Down System Commuter Coat:

I wanted a single coat for travelling, to cope with a range of weather. On a recent visit to Madrid, it fitted the bill perfectly - I wore the shell on warmer days and the shell with the lining when it turned very cold and wet. Versatile and waterproof too. Lovely long sleeves and body (I'm quite tall), but I'm glad I went for a size up to get a comfortable fit widthwise. Cons: the hood is much too deep and falls over the face - a drawcord would enable it to be adjusted. Only 2 colours to choose from and the liner is a very light shade - not very practical to wear on its own. But these are minor niggles, and overall, I'm delighted with it.

Comments about Women's Down System Commuter Coat:

This coat was recommended by a friend who was warm and dry whilst I was cold and wet. We are both dog walkers. I was initially put off by some of the reviews regard sizing so I decided to go for a medium as I don't want a coat that is too small in places. Although the medium is more on the large size on me, this enables me to wear lots of layers underneath. It is extremely warm regardless of layers and is great for walking outdoors. The lining does show at the end of the sleeves but will disappear if the outer layer is pulled down. The zip is substantial although it takes a little while to get used to its mechanism and does right up to the neck. The internal drawstring around the waist helps pull in the coat to really keep out the wind and gives the coat a more flattering shape.

Help. I'm a size 12 so if this was offered in a size 12 to 14 I would have no hesitation in ordering. Will the 10 to 12 be too tight? Has the coat been sized to allow for winter weight clothes to be worn underneath? Thanks.

I would recommend ordering the small (UK 10/12) as our sizing is usually quite generous. The chest measurement of this size is 42 inches, giving enough room for winter clothing.

                  Hello

I love this coat but the feathers from the down lining keep escaping. If I wear a dark coloured top underneath it, when I take the coat off, I am covered in little white feathers. Is there anything I can do to stop this ?

                    A:

I am sorry if you have experienced a problem with your down coat. However, a bit of initial feather leakage is normal. Regularly put the jacket through the dryer as this will plump up the feathers. The problem might occur when the feathers have become too flattened, leaving the sharp spines more exposed, and more likely to come through the fabric. Down can even work its way through the tiniest of gaps between stitching.

When are you going to produce this coat in a very much longer length, like the new longer length of the down-filled coat?

I may only be short (what tall people do I do not know) but I like my coats almost to my ankles to keep my legs warm. (The extra long would be this length on me.)

Do hope you produce this very useful coat in the longer length soon.
