Our Iconic Canvas Tote. Seen Four Ways.

What happens when a practical classic is handed to four distinct creative minds.

There’s a reason our Canvas Tote has stayed the same for decades. Heavyweight canvas. Reinforced handles. Made to carry more than it looks like it should. It’s the bag by the door. The one that handles school runs, beach days, office commutes and last-minute weekend plans without complaint.

Recently, we handed our tote bag to four emerging designers and asked them to interpret it through their own lens. Each version shows how a simple, everyday object can become personal. Shaped by story. By craft. By character. And still doing exactly what it was designed to do.

Think of them as inspiration for your own tote. Carried often. Worn in. Maybe customised over time. We believe that the best pieces aren’t precious. They’re used. Loved. And that’s how they become uniquely yours.

Here’s a closer look at the four interpretations.

Introducing LABRUM. Blending West African cultural heritage with British tailoring and storytelling. The label was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. The LABRUM "In Transit Tote" features vintage travel stamps across the canvas. They represent the borders we cross and the places that shape who we become. This design ties directly to the designer’s narrative of migration and cultural journey from Sierra Leone through Cyprus to London, reflecting his personal experiences and his commitment to cultural storytelling.

Then there’s ASHISH, founded by British-Indian designer Ashish Gupta, following his MA in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins. He is loved for beautiful hand-embroidery, sequins and vibrant colours. ASHISH’s "Hand-Embroidered Button Tote” features hand-embroidered buttons across the canvas. The buttons are a mix of deadstock and vintage buttons sourced in India, creating a playful and colourful design.

Next up is Ahluwalia, a multi-award-winning London-based fashion label founded by Priya Ahluwalia after completing her MA in Menswear at the University of Westminster. Priya's Indian-Nigerian heritage and London upbringing are blending cultural influences and sustainable design practices. The Ahluwalia "Joy Patch Tote" features a signature patch printed with their iconic Joy print. The patch shows an embroidered exterior and reflects Ahluwalia's commitment to craftsmanship.

Last but by no means least, Talia Byre is a London-based women's fashion label founded by designer Talia Lipkin-Connor after graduating from Central Saint Martins. The label is named in tribute to her great-uncle's iconic Liverpool boutique, Lucinda Byre. The "Talia Byre Tote" features a clean, minimalist cream canvas tote adorned with Talia Byre lettering. The silver poppers on the handles match her iconic Bolter bag handles. This sophisticated and understated approach reflects her philosophy of quiet elegance and wearability.

These totes are a celebration of creativity, with proceeds from each sale supporting Mentoring Matters, the non-profit creating opportunities for emerging talent in the creative industries.

The designers have shown what’s possible. Now it’s over to you. Explore our Canvas Tote collection and make it part of your everyday story.
